The animation movie “Ongaku: Our Sound” has been nominated to the Long Contrechamps Category for the “Annecy International Animation Film Festival” in France.
In response, the director Iwaizawa Kenji delivered a comment by saying, “Annecy International Animation Film Festival has been one of the goals since we had begun to produce 'Ongaku: Our Sound', so I am honored to be nominated this time”.
“Ongaku: Our Sound” is the privately-published manga by Oohashi Hiroyuki which depicts the delinquent students who have no experience of playing instruments begin to form a group band because they feel like doing it.
The anime adoption has been said to be impossible, but the director Iwaizawa almost produced it by himself. The production took more than 7 years, required more than 40,000 illustrations, and many techniques including rotoscoping, which takes in photographs into animation.
“Anney International Animation Festival” marks 60th anniversary this year, and known to be one of “4 largest animation movie festivals” together with the festivals in Ottawa in Canada, Zagreb in Croatia, and Hiroshima in Japan.
Long Contrechamp Category is the new competition from 2019 with the targets of “the unique long movies and the works which challenge the audience”.
“Ongaku: Our Sound” has won the grand prize in the “Ottawa International Animation Movie Festival” in 2019 held in Canada. Would they go to win again with 2nd nomination to the foreign movie festival?
“Annecy International Animation Movie Festival” will be held online from Jun. 15 to 20 due to the spread of novel Coronavirus.
