The figure skating manga “Medalist,” which won first place in the comics category of the “Next Comic Award 2022,” will be adapted into a TV anime. Along with this, a teaser visual and an illustration by the original author, Tsurumaikada, commemorating the TV anime adaptation have been released. The main staff, including director Yamamoto Yasutaka, has also been announced.
“Medalist” is a figure skating manga serialized in “Afternoon” by Tsurumaikada, who made their debut with this work. The story begins with an encounter between Akeuraji Tsukasa, a man who struggled to succeed as a skater, and a girl, Shibata Inori, who has a yearning for the figure skating world. Moved by Inori’s obsession with the rink, Tsukasa takes on the job of coaching Inori himself. Inori’s talent blossoms, and Tsukasa grows as her mentor. The story depicts the two as they team up to become “medalists” of glory.
Last year, the manga won first place in the “Next Comic Award 2022,” the “68th Shogakukan Manga Award” in the general category. Inori, the main character, also won the award for Best Actress at the “Magademy Awards 2022,” a manga award that honors manga characters.
To commemorate the TV anime adaptation, a teaser visual and a commemorative illustration by the original author, Tsurumaikada, have been released. The main staff includes director Yamamoto Yasutaka, series composition and screenplay by Hanada Jukki, character design by Kameyama Chinatsu, and animation production by ENGI.
In commemoration of the anime adaptation, a giveaway campaign is currently held on the official Twitter page. Among the users who follow and retweet the applicable tweet, one winner will be selected to receive a complete set of the manga including the first volume with the autograph of the author Tsurumaikada.
