The latest Disney animation film, “Raya and the Last Dragon,” which is based on ” Frozen” and “Moana” has been released simultaneously in theaters and at the “Disney Plus” premiere access.
The film is a spectacular fantasy that depicts the battle and growth of a young girl, Raya, in the “Dragon Kingdom”. Despite her emotional scars, Raya continues to fight alone to fulfill her mission, and is attracting attention as a “unique heroine”
As the times change, Disney has continued to create unique heroines that are loved by many people. From Cinderella and Snow White, who fall in fatal love with a prince, to Rapunzel, Elsa and Anna, who overcome many hardships to forge their own futures, Disney has depicted a wide variety of heroines and spun colorful stories to suit each of them.
So, what was the background to the story of Raya, the “lonely” girl who lost her father and stopped believing in people?
Carlos López Estrada, the director of “Raya and the Last Dragon,” spoke about the production process behind the film, saying, “I think we make a conscious effort to depict the world we live in and the people who live in it. But that doesn’t mean that’s the only reason we made Raya. In other films that we’ve worked on, there’s no check to say, “Does this meet the criteria for diversification?”
According to the director, the appeal of Disney movies is that they “take you to a world you’ve never been to, let you experience a culture you didn’t know much about, and let you meet the people who are there”.
The film depicts the growth of Raya, who had been locked in her shell, through her encounters with her friends and her journey. The story is inspired by Southeast Asia, a first for Disney animation.
The director said, “(Disney) has never really dealt with Southeast Asia before, so we were happy to dive into it, so that we could share that culture with everyone.
In “Raya and the Last Dragon,” the heroine and the story have different charms, and it seems that the purpose of the film is to introduce the audience to an unfamiliar world and culture.
The new heroine, Raya, is a departure from the heroines of the past. I hope you will take in the “important message” that she and her friends teach us through their epic journey on the screen.
“Raya and the Last Dragon” is now being released in theaters and at the “Disney Plus” premiere access.
