The latest film of director Hosoda Mamoru, known for “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”, “Summer Wars”, and others, will be released in summer 2021. The title is “Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime”, and it takes place in the extremely large internet world “U” that has more than 5 billion registered accounts worldwide.

Director Hosoda has obtained an award in “Japan Academy Film Prize for Animation of the Year” for his previous works, including “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” (2006), “Summer Wars” (2009), “Wolf Children” (2012), “The Boy and the Beast” (2015), and “Mirai” (2018).
Also, “Mirai” was nominated for “Annie Awards” and “Academy Award for Best Animated Feature”, and not only has it charm the audience in Japan, but also the worldwide audience.

The latest film “Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime” was announced as “Studio Chizu”, the animation studio that he formed together with Saitou Yuichiro, will welcomed its 10th anniversary in 2021.
The plot are still remain as a mysterious and the only known information is the title and the single concept arts that depict the internet world “U”, the setting of the story.

When we talk about director Hosoda, we will think about “Summer Wars” and “Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!” (2000), and others, that have depicted who the internet and digital technology have changed the life of people.
After the title and concept art of the latest film were announced, various feedbacks can be seen on Twitter, including “Will it be similar to ‘Summer Wars’?” and “Just when I thought that the visual is mirroring Summer Wars’s OZ, the setting for this latest film is the internet world ‘U’! I can’t wait for the teaser as I am wondering about the world setting…!”

“Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime” will open in nationwide Toho affiliated theatres in summer 2021.
