Immerse yourself deeper and deeper into the world of “AKIRA”! Screening in “Dolby Cinema” at 7 cinemas nationwide , the ultimate cinema experience

The world-famous movie “AKIRA” will be screened in “Dolby Cinema”. The film will be shown at 7 cinemas nationwide from December 4th, 2020.

The original “AKIRA” is based on the comic of the same name, which was serialized in “Young Magazine” from December 1982 by Ootomo Katsuhiro and became a worldwide hit.
The movie “AKIRA” was produced in 1988, with Ootomo, the author of the original work, directing the film himself. The production period was three years and the total cost of production was one billion yen, which was an unbelievable amount of time, labor, and techniques used in animation at the time.

This time, at the end of ” 2020″ in which the film takes place, it will be screened in “Dolby Cinema”, which achieves the ultimate cinema-immersive experience by combining state-of-the-art HDR video technology “Dolby Vision” and the stereophonic technology “Dolby Atmos” with theater design optimized for the movie experience (interior colors, space design and seating arrangements).

By remastering 4K scanned images from 35mm master positive film into “Dolby Vision” HDR images, the contrast, brightness and color gamut of “AKIRA” images have been reconstructed in a way that was impossible to achieve with conventional formats. Bright lights and deep details in the dark areas that would have been lost in the previous format are now expressed, creating an immersive experience unlike anything seen before.

The screening of “AKIRA” in Dolby Cinema will begin on December 4th at seven theaters nationwide, including the Marunouchi Piccadilly in Tokyo.
