Characters who experienced their tremendous end in the anime can’t be forgotten. They experience such events to protect friends physically, to leave at the beginning of the story, to die and reborn multiple times…etc. In the past, characters’ funerals were actually had been held, and they are sometimes taken up as sensational events that transcend the boundaries of anime into the real world.
Here, at Anime!Anime!, we conducted a reader survey “What character had the most amazing moment of death?” We received responses from 537 people during the survey period from October 22 to October 29.
The male-female ratio is about 40% for males and about 60% for females. About 50% of the age group were minors, and about 30% were in their 20s.

■ Topping the list is Ace from “One Piece” with an unforgettable last line!
1st place goes to Portgas D. Ace from “One Piece” with an approval rating was about 9%.
Readers commented about an unexpected plot twist, “It was a cool end to protect his younger brother and die, I was too shocked that I could not recover from his loss. Somewhere in my heart, I wonder if he’s still alive.”, and “I was shocked because I never thought that Ace could die.”
Many readers pointed on an unforgettable Ace’s last line, “When Sakazuki, one of the three Admirals, pierced him, his last words to Luffy sounded like he said it to the viewers, ‘Thank you for all your love’.”
2nd place
2nd place goes to Lelouch Lamperouge from “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion”. The approval rating was about 7%.
Many fans were surprised by the end of such a Picaresque Novel, “In the final episode, when he died carrying all his sins, I couldn’t stop crying”, “Death that completes his story, from the rebel to the emperor, left scars on my heart.” Some comments explain why he still popular, “No one else before made me wish for him to become happy.”
3rd place
3rd place goes to Rengoku Kyoujirou “Flame Hashira” from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” with a very small difference in votes
Many people said that they couldn’t stop crying in the cinema, “The movie is on screens now, so I came up with it first. His death made Tanjirou and his friends stronger. The smile on the verge of breath is especially impressive.”, and “A strong heart, a deep love for the family, and a feeling of connecting to juniors. Everything was wonderful including how his belief supports Tanjirou’s growth even after his death.”
His last line, “Burn your heart.”, was very inspiring.
