“Yakunara Mug Cup Mo”, the free comic based on “high school girls × pottery” from Tajimi City, Gifu, will get a TV anime adaption. The key visual has been released, and Tanaka Minami, Serizawa Yuu, Wakai Yuuki, and Honnizumi Rina have been announced as the main cast members.
“Yakunara Mug Cup Mo” is set in Tajimi City in southeast Gifu Prefecture, known for its traditional craft “Minou ware”. Four high school girls are fascinated by pottery and devote their youth to it. It is originally a free comic published by the local IT company Planet from 2012 as a part of the “Let's energize the city” project which was started in 2010 by volunteers and companies of Tajimi City. There are currently 32 volumes published, and the manga is supported by the locals along with the spin-off four-panel manga “Naoko no Kobachi”.
The key visual released along with the announcement of the TV anime adaption shows the four unique main characters happily taking a selfie.
With an idyllic single-story house in the back, various shapes of pottery created by the girls are displayed on the table.
The main cast members who will be voicing the four high school girls are Tanaka Minami, Serizawa Yuu, Wakai Yuuki, and Honnizumi Rina.
Their roles are Tanaka as Toyokawa Himeno, the dependable 1st-year high school student who has the legendary potter as her mother, Serizawa as Kukumi Rika, the class clown that enlivens the pottery club with her out-of-the-box ideas, Wakai as Naruse Naoko, the girl with a unique personality who for some reason, spends a lot of time at the pottery club, and Honnizumi as Aoki Tooko, the pottery club president who devotes herself to pottery.
We have received comments of joy and motivation from the cast members of the anime and a comment from the mayor of Tajimi City, who is delighted by the anime adaption.

【Tanaka Minami】
When I heard the title, I wondered what the work was about, haha. I practiced pottery once at a pottery class my father attends. The teacher was so skilled! No wonder, right? haha. I want to try my best!
My character Himeno is a calm girl, but I want to show how she grows through pottery along with her friends.
I'm hoping the four of us will have a good time performing together and wish to feel the beauty of Tajimi City, the town where the story takes place. Please look forward to the show!
【Serizawa Yuu】
I had the impression that pottery was a cultured hobby, but in the manga, its depicted pop and cute. I'm looking forward to seeing the cuteness expressed as an anime.
My pottery experience is making a cup for my father a few years ago, and I thought the shape resembles the person who created it, haha. I also thought the coloring after being fired was interesting.
Mika is the cheerful character that sets the pace of the story, so I'm already excited about portraying her!
The four girls have a good vibe, and I wish to express it through my performance, so please look forward to it. Also, I want to visit Tajimi!
【Wakai Yuuki】
I enjoyed the youthful student life in the original manga. I'm from Gifu, so the feeling of the slow flow of time was nostalgic for me, haha.
I don't have any pottery experience, but it's definitely on my to-do list. I'd love to spin the potter's wheel! And of course, I'm making a mug cup, haha.
Naoko-chan's charm is her unreadable thoughts even in the original manga. I'm excited to see how she grows through the story!
The four of us are close in age, and I'm sure it'll be a fun recording, so please look forward to the broadcast!
【Honnizumi Rina】
I'm looking forward to learning about clay and the history of pottery through this title. Also, the food looks delicious. Like the eels! I've done pottery before, but the plate I made was a bit disfigured, so I'd like to give it another try.
My character Tooko is the dependable, cool girl of the four, but has an unstoppable passion for pottery. I want to portray Tooko's stoic side and express the characteristics of Tajimi, the town where the story takes place.
I've heard that Tajjimi is full of delicious food, haha. I hope everyone can enjoy the local vibe of the town!
【Tajimi City Mayor Furukawa Masanori】
In this memorable 80th anniversary year, the anime adaption of “Yakunara Mug Cup Mo” has been decided. 10 years ago, the publishing of the free comic “Yakunara Mug Cup Mo” started as part of the “Let's energize the city” project by citizen volunteers.
This free comic featuring high school girls who belong to the pottery club introduces the appeal of the local industry Mino ware to the younger generation. And I believe that the anime adaption is a great way to get more people of a wider range of generations to know Mino ware.
This land, where the pottery industry and culture live on, is about to be reborn as the leading pottery-producing center “Ceramic Valley”.
Motivated by the anime adaption of “Yakunara Mug Cup Mo”, the local government set up a council, and the town will do its best to support the project.
We hope that many people will watch the anime, get interested in Tajimi, and visit us. We will sincerely welcome them with hospitality.
