Which is the best anime in spring 2020? "Kaguya-sama: Love is War" and "Fruits Basket" ranked in 2nd place, while the top goes to…

We are now in late June. Many of the new spring 2020 TV anime titles have reached their last episode.

Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, many spring anime have been postponed. Which are the most popular titles among the fans?

Here at Anime! Anime! we conducted a reader survey asking, “Which is the best anime in spring 2020 (April)?”. During the survey period between Jun. 18 to Jun. 25, a total of 175 responses were received. The gender ratio featured almost the same number of votes with 48% male and 52% female. The age group was about 38% for those under the age of 19, and about 30% for those in their 20s, mainly focusing on youngsters.

■From the bond between father and daughter to the love story of geniuses, to the mysterious curse… Noteworthy works appear in the ranking!
The 1st place goes to “Kakushigoto” with an approval rating of about 18%.

Some comments have been received such as, “The original story has been adapted from manga to anime faithfully. The ending was also wonderful”, and “The entire series was like a painting, a really beautiful work of art”. Fans also praised the last episode, “It made me laugh every time, and I cried so hard in the last episode that I got my clothes wet!”, and “I cried at the last episode”.

The 2nd place goes to “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” with an approval rating of about 16%.

Many fans appreciated how the series entertained them since the first season, which was broadcast in 2019; “It was very interesting since the first season”, and “I felt that the cast and staff members gave it their all. The gag episodes, in particular, were filled with a lot of parodies, and also the changes in the relationship between Kaguya and the president were always exciting and fun!”.
We also received comments about the new characters of the last season, “With the new characters such as Miko-chan, the work has become even more interesting”.

The second season of “Fruits Basket” ranked in 2nd place with the same percentage of votes (16%).

It has been over 15 years since the conclusion of the original work, and the series is still loved. Comments have been received; “The first manga I bought with my pocket money was 'Fruits Basket'. After 10 years since its conclusion, I was looking forward to seeing the full version of the anime”, and “There are a lot of fascinating characters which feature both warm and dark sides. I can't wait to see the rest of the story since it is also called 'Bible'”.

In addition, the ranking based only on the male votes sees “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” in 1st place, “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!” in 2nd place, and “Kakushigoto” in 3rd place. The female side sees “Kakushigoto” in 1st place, “Fruits Basket” second season in 2nd place, and “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!” in 3rd place.

Regarding “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!”, many comments praised the cuteness of the main character Catarina; “I fell in love with her cuteness and kind personality”, and “She is so adorable! It was very fun to see, and I was also touched by some scenes”.

“Argonavis from BanG Dream!”, “The female characters are very famous in the series, but also the boys' ver. is very interesting to watch”.

“Ascendance of a Bookworm”, “Both the original manga and the anime are very interesting” and “I can well understand the feelings of the protagonist. The depiction of the characters is also very well done”.

“Wave, Listen to Me!”, “The speed of Minare's talking was great” and “Too much fun in every episode”.

Although the spring anime have had a rough start, the ranking includes the most anticipated new works and notable sequels.
