The sequel to “GUNDAM SONG COVERS”, which features Moriguchi Hiroko's versions of the theme songs from the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, is scheduled to be released on Jun. 10, 2020. Among those that have received more than 100,000 popular votes, songs that come from various generations have been included, such as “Silent Voice”, “Reach Out to the Sky Someday”, and “Anna ni Issho Datta no ni”.
Moriguchi Hiroko made her debut with the theme song “Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete” from the TV anime series “Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam”, which was aired in 1985. The theme song “Eternal Wind ~Hohoemi wa Hikaru Kaze no Naka~”, which was used in the movie “Mobile Suit Gundam F91” in 1991, granted her album to be ranked in the best top 10.
The album “GUNDAM SONG COVERS”, which features Moriguchi's versions of the 10 most popular Gundam songs (include cover and self-cover), as voted on NHK's “Announcement! All Gundam Big Vote”, was released in 2019. It peaked at the 3rd place on Oricon's Weekly Album Chart, and after entering the top 10 albums list, she got the 1st place as the best female artist.
The release date of the sequel to “GUNDAM SONG COVERS”, which ranked 3rd on Oricon's Weekly Chart and sold over 100,000 copies, “GUNDAM SONG COVERS 2” has been decided. The album, which is based on the theme “to create the greatest cover album by the Gundam fans and for the Gundam fans”, features the cover songs selected by over 100,000 popular votes received on the Internet.
According to the popular votes, the songs that ranked on the top include; the opening theme “Silent Voice” (original singer: Hiroe Jun) of “Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ”, the background song “Silver Dress” (original singer: Moriguchi Hiroko) of “Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam”, the image song “Kimi wo Mitsumete -The time I'm seeing you” (original singer: Moriguchi Hiroko) of “Mobile Suit Gundam F91”, the opening theme “Reach Out to the Sky Someday” (original singer: Shiina Megumi) of “Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket”, the ending theme “Anna ni Issho Datta no ni” (original singer: See-Saw) of “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED”, and others.
The 10 most popular songs are included in the album's compilation as being covered and self-covered by Moriguchi Hiroko. In addition, bonus tracks are planned to be inserted, which are the background song “The Wheels of Dawn” (original singer: See-Saw) of “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED”, and one more Gundam song chosen by Moriguchi.
Furthermore, the album jacket which depicts the protagonist of “Mobile Suit Gundam F91”, Gundam F91, and Moriguchi wearing a normal suit (space suit) while floating in the outer space with the moon at the back, has been revealed. The illustration is the same used in the previous album and was made by Kotobuki Tsubasa, the designer of Gundam's characters.
The jacket is used as a sleeve case that is only included in the first batch of the album “regular edition”, which can be purchased in nationwide CD shops and EC websites. In addition to it, a “limited edition” featuring an LP-sized double jacket is only available to be preordered on the online shopping website “KING e-SHOP” until Mar. 31. Furthermore, a lottery ticket of the “GUNDAM SONG COVER Premium Talk & Live” is included as a special gift in the first batch of the albums.
