The Anime Movie The Deer King will be released on Sep. 18, 2020. And what's more Ando Masashi, character designer and animation director of "Your Name", "Spirited Away", and "Princess Mononoke", will be part of the crew.
The original work of "The Deer King" is an adventure novel by Uehashi Nahoko, also known for the live-action drama series "Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit". The story is set in a world dominated by a mighty empire, where a father and his adopted daughter continue to travel as they confront a cruel destiny. At the same time, the story of a doctor desperately seeking to save many people from a mysterious disease unfolds.
Among the new production crew members, Ando Masashi, one of the most influential animators in the Japanese film industry, known for his previous work in "Your Name", "Spirited Away", and "Princess Mononoke", will take up his first time role as a director for this movie.
In addition, Masayuki Miyaji (who started his directing career with the animated movie "Fusé: Memoirs of the Hunter Girl"), and Kishimoto Taku (known for his previous work in "Haikyuu!!" and "Erased" series), will join the cast as co-director and scriptwriter respectively.
