The sequel to the live-action film “Tokyo Revengers” will be released in two parts: “Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween -Destiny-” on April 21, 2023, and “Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween -Decisive Battle-” on June 30, 2023. The visual of the founding of Tokyo Manji-kai, the key to the story of part 1 “Destiny” has been released.
“Tokyo Revengers” is based on the manga “Tokyo Revengers” by Wakui Ken, which was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Magazine.” The “rebel-against-authority/suspense” that has captured the hearts of men and women with its super cool characters, the hero Takemichi who grows every time he returns to the past to take revenge on his life, the bonds with his dedicated friends who join forces to fight together, and the numerous quotes that move the hearts of the audience. The original work has been repeatedly reprinted and has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide as of February 2023.
The first live-action film was released in theaters on July 9, 2021. The all-star cast includes Kitamura Takumi, who plays the main character Takemichi, Yamada Yuki, Sugino Yosuke, Imada Mio, Suzuki Nobuyuki, Maeda Gordon, Shimizu Hiroya, Isomura Yuto, Mamiya Shotaro, and Yoshizawa Ryo, all of who are very popular and talented. The “heart-pounding” story of Takemichi risking his life for the sake of his friends and his own ruined life became popular, and the total box-office revenue reached 4.5 billion yen and 3.35 million viewers, making it the No. 1 live-action film for theaters in 2021.
The visual of the formation of Tokyo Manji-kai that was released shows Mikey (Yoshizawa Ryo), Draken (Yuki Yamada), Mitsuya (Maeda Gordon), Pah-chin (Horike Kazuki), Baji (Nagayama Kento), and Ichitora (Murakami Nijiro), all of whom were close friends and founding members of Tokyo Manjikai. It is an emotional shot taken at the Shibuya scramble crossing to commemorate the formation of Tokyo Manji-kai, and is a precious image of the start of Tokyo Manji-kai, which later transformed into a huge organization.
However, the six best friends who were supposed to be bound tightly together now find themselves torn apart when Takemichi (Takumi Kitamura) is sent back in time to save Hinata (Mio Imada). A “tragic incident” in the past is said to have torn the six members apart. The incident split the founding members, and Tokyo Manji-kai faces off against “Valhalla,” led by Hanma (Shimizu Hiroya), Ichitora, and the mysterious leader of the group. Eventually, Baji turns on them and joins Valhalla.
In part 1 “-Destiny-,” Takemichi learns that the key to saving Hinata is to bring back Baji and Ichitora to Tokyo Manji-kai, and he rises up again to fight against his destiny in order to save Hinata and his friends. This is why this visual is so important to the story of part 1 “-Destiny-“. In addition, the scene where they take a memorial photo to celebrate the founding of the group is a memorable scene that is also depicted in the original work and the anime. It is no exaggeration to say that this shot was only possible in this film with the new cast, including Baji and Ichitora, and it is worthy of note that fans of the original work and the anime will find the recreation fascinating.
“Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween -Destiny-” will be released on April 21, 2023, and “Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween -Decisive Battle-” on June 30, 2023. The visual will also be used as the banner for part 1 of the film, which will be displayed in theaters all over Japan starting February 17, except for a few theaters. Please check it out when you visit the movie theaters.
