October 16 is Kitou Akari-san’s birthday.

She debuted as a voice actor in the 2010s and won the Best Actresses in Supporting Roles in the 15th Seiyu Awards. In 2021, she plays the main character in various titles including, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba”, “Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion”, “Shadows House”, and “Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy”.

She’s also active as an artist and released her 1st mini album “Kaleidoscope” on August 4. The song in the album, “No Continue” is the opening theme for “Battle Game in 5 Seconds”, expressing the world of the anime through her voice.

To celebrate her birthday, we at Anime!Anime conducted an annual survey asking “Who’s Your Favorite Character Voiced by Kitou Akari-san?” There were 252 votes during the survey period from October 1 to October 8.
The genders of the voters were about half each, and the age range was on the younger side with 50% under 20 and 30% in their 20s.

■There were characters that dramatically moved up the list!

1st Place

Kamado Nezuko from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” topped the list for 2 consecutive years with roughly 28% of the votes.

“She wears a bamboo gag, so her lines are mostly moaning, but it’s amazing how she can express her feelings through them. She’s also impressive when she’s starving, and it’s all thanks to Kitou-san’s acting,” and “You can understand her feelings through short lines! Her soft voice as a human is also perfect,” are comments that praise her emotional expressions through her moans and the gentle tone of her voice.

“Maybe having the letter 鬼 (demon) in her name makes her perfect for the role… I’m looking forward to seeing her in the new series!” is a comment from a fan anticipating the new series.

2nd Place

Coming in 2nd was Adachi from “Adachi and Shimamura” with roughly 15% of the votes, dramatically moving her up from last year’s 11th place.

Adachi is a high school girl who often skips classes. Fans were fascinated by how she couldn’t control her emotions after meeting Shimamura and sent comments such as “She meets Shimamura in the gymnasium and wants to become friends with her. Although her efforts are sometimes fruitless, it’s amazing how she expresses the distance between them gets closer,” and “Her lower voice than usual is so comfortable. Adachi full of thoughts about Shimamura is so adorable.”

3rd Place

Oumi Kanata from “Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club” took 3rd place. She dropped a position but was only 1 vote short of 2nd place.

“Her goal is to become the best school idol and be praised by her sister. How she falls asleep once in a while is adorable,” “She refers to herself as ‘Kaata-chan’ and always looks sleepy. Her soft and warm personality is so cute,” and “Her relaxed way of speaking is different from usual Akarin and I love it,” are comments from fans who were soothed by the character.
The 2nd season of the TV anime will be broadcast from April 2022.

For Yuzaki Tsukasa from “Fly Me to the Moon”, “She’s usually cool but she gets excited when getting a smartphone for the first time and becomes a baby when Nasa returns home. Her various emotions are so cute. I really envy her husband Nasa.”
For Hinata Kaho from “Blend S”, “I was introduced to Kitou Akari-san by this title. The theme of ‘Blend S’ is the duality of the characters, and I was able to enjoy her acting skills, which is another reason I fell in love with her.”

For Mio from “Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy”, “I had an impression that Kitou-san plays an energetic young girl, so I was surprised to see her playing an attractive former spider beast. She matched the character’s personality and vibe which made me instantly fall in love with her.”
There were also votes for a title that has a sequel coming up. For Chiyoda Momo from “The Demon Girl Next Door”, “She’s a magical girl but she can be more wicked than demons, and her shape comebacks in her low-key voice are fascinating. I look forward to the 2nd season.”

For the 2021 survey, Nezuko from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” was still popular, while there were several characters who dramatically moved up the list from titles such as “Adachi to Shimamura”, “Fly Me to the Moon”, and “Uma Musume Pretty Derby”.
