August 24 is “Love Drink Day”.
The anniversary was established after the birthday of a poet Wakayama Bokusui, who loved drinking.
There are many characters who love drinking in anime and games. Since they are depicted in many ways, some of them never get rosy cheeks even if they have any kind of drink, others have to have a glass of drink after work or are particular about fine wines. Among those characters, who is the most favorite?
Therefore, Anime!Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Who is your favorite “drinker” character?”. During the survey period from August 9 to 16, a total of 389 responses were received. For the gender ratio, the females were the majority with about 75% while the males were about 25%. For the age distribution, we received the majority of responses from the young readers: about 60% were from teens, and 25% were from those in their 20s.
■Gin-san from “Gintama” topped the list while he tends to get drunk!
1st Place
1st place went to Sakata Gintoki from “Gintama”. The support rating was about 14%.
Even though Gintoki loves drinking, some fans mentioned the scenes where he gets gross, saying “There are so many scenes of him drinking compared to other boys comics, including the scenes where he drinks too much and goes home with a hangover”, and “It never ends until he pukes after getting drunk”.
On the other hand, he sometimes brings fun to serious situations as well, and the received comments include, “Among the important episodes, some of them feature the scene where Gin-san has a drink with his friends or rivals. He has a very strong connection with a drink”.
2nd Place
2nd place went to Mouri Kogorou from “Detective Conan”. The support rating was about 11%.
The readers have an image of a boozehound for Kogorou as a private detective, and the received comments include “He always drinks beer whenever he has time, and I can immediately remember his figure of being drunk. Ran-chan is kind enough to take care of Kogorou”, and “On his desk at the detective office, there are many empty beer cans”.
The scene where he sometimes plays a major role is impressive as well as the comment shows, “He is usually sloppy, but he becomes as cool as Conan when he gets things done. I wouldn’t expect anything less than such a gap from Kogorou”.
3rd Place
3rd place went to Roronoa Zoro from “One Piece”. The support rating was about 8%.
Zoro can drink a lot compared to the other Straw Hat Pirates members, and some readers mentioned the episode related to a drink. The received comments include “He drinks with a big smile, which looks so fun”, “It is amazing that no matter how much he drinks, he never gets drunk”, and “In a recent episode of the anime, he smells out a drink from a distance. I was surprised how much he loves drinking”.
■Let’s introduce other comments!!
Kitahara Iori “Grand Blue”
“When it comes to drinking, I immediately come up with this work, in which the characters are boozing even though they belong to a diving club. The protagonist Iori is such a heavy drinker!”
Toba Minami “Laid-Back Camp△”
“She is a rookie teacher who became the Outdoor Activities Circle’s advisor. Although she sometimes takes a strict stance, she sometimes drinks so much alcohol, mainly Sake, that she cuts loose… I can understand why she has a nickname “Gubi-Nee (Miss Chug) that came because of that.”
Murasaki Wakako “Wakakozake”
“She drops into bars to have a drink every day to treat herself after work. I love her line ‘psss’ when he gets a glass of drink.”
Miss Kobayashi “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid”
“She met a dragon Tohru when she missed her station and went into mountains after drinking heavily. Her personality dramatically changes when she gets drunk, which is also one of the reasons.” The character won some voted partly because the story developed from the point where she got drunk.
