Which is Your Favorite 2021 Summer Anime Theme Song? 【ED Editon】 3rd Place “Idolish7”, 2nd Place “RE-MAIN”, and 1st Place Goes to… Fans Loved the Gap Between the OP Song and ED Song!

It has been roughly a month since the 2021 summer anime have begun.

Not only the story but the theme song that condenses the world of the anime in 1 minute and 30 seconds also fascinate the fans. As usual, the summer anime had many songs that let you enjoy the world of the title. So, which anime theme song grabbed the hearts of the fans the most?

We at Anime!Anime! conducted a survey asking “Which is Your Favorite 2021 Summer Anime Theme Song?” There were 259 votes during the survey period from August 3 to August 10.
The voters were mainly female with a gender ratio of 30% male to 70% female, and the age range was on the younger side with 50% under 20 and 30% in their 20s.

Here are the results for the ED theme songs.

■”Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan” won again following the OP theme song.

1st Place

“Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan” topped the list with roughly 13% of the votes. It won both the surveys for OP and ED theme songs.

The ED theme for this anime is “Dream on” by Miyano Mamoru. Readers sent comments such as, “It’s mature, stylish, and cool. I love the lyrics that stand by the exhausted grownups and give us positive energy. I also like how he uses his mix voice and improvises the melody,” and “Miyano-san’s soft singing voice soothes my heart.”
The gap between this song and the comical OP theme is another reason why it leaves a strong impression on the fans.

2nd Place

Coming in 2nd is “RE-MAIN” with roughly 10% of the votes.

The ED theme song for this anime is “Kowareta Sekai no Byoushin wa” by Nakamura Sougo. Fans pointed out how it matches the water polo theme and story saying, “The song makes you feel like you’re underwater, and is a song that I want everyone to listen to not only the ED theme but also the full version. The lyrics by Nakamura-san are in line with the anime and encourages me,” and “While having the freshness of the anime, the song also follows the tough struggle of the protagonist who has lost his memories.”

3rd Place

3rd place went to “Idolish7: Third BEAT!” with roughly 9% of the votes.

The ED theme “PLACES” by TRIGGER received comments saying the song and images both express the world created by the artist, “It’s a classic cool TRIGGER song,” and “The monotone images match TRIGGER and the dramatic intro grabbed me by the heart.”
There was also a comment saying, “Since the story is developing towards an intense situation, the song that expresses TRIGGER’s firm determination to move forward is reliving to listen to fans.”

When looking at only male votes, “The Detective is Already Dead” took 1st place followed by “Kageki Shojo!!”, and “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S”.
For the female votes, the results were the same as the total votes with “Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan” at the top, “RE-MAIN” at 2nd, and “Idolish7” at 3rd.

For “Kodou” by Kagura Nana from “The Detective is Already Dead”, “The song matches the ED video and is amazing. Even more, the song is written and composed by 40mP-san!” and “The title ‘Kodou’ has a very important meaning, and when I listen to it with the images, it makes me cry.”

For “0 (zero)” by LMYK from “The Case Study of Vanitas”, “In addition to the dreamy melody, the meaningful lyrics stick to my ear. My interpretation of the song changes with each episode, so I always look forward to the next show.”

For “Maid With Dragons” by Super Chorogons from “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S”, “I love the lingering lyrics that follow the story sung by the characters. The music video in which the cast members dress up as their characters is also super cute.”

There were also votes for the anime that has different ED themes depending on the episodes.
For “Hoshi no Tabibito” by Watanabe Sarasa (voice: Senbongi Sayaka) x Narata Ai (voice: Hanamori Yumiri) and “Shinayaka na Mirai” by Sugimoto Sawa (voice: Uesaka Sumire) x Yamada Ayako (voice: Sasaki Riko) from “Kageki Shojo!!”, “It was refreshing to see voice actors singing a Takarazuka-style song, and I was enchanted by how cool it was!” and “Both versions were amazing. I’m excited to see if there are any other combinations.”

Various songs made the list for the ED theme songs. In the top ranking, many of the songs were those sung by the voice actors.
