August 6 is “World Beer Day”.

It’s a day to enjoy beer with your friends and thank people who are involved in beer industry. It was enacted on the first Friday of August, and in 2021 is August 6.

Beer with a bitter taste is a popular drink, and the common phrase “I’ll just have a beer to begin with” is also well known. There are many types of alcohol, but among them, beer will be something special for many people.

Here at Anime!Anime!, we conducted a reader survey entitled “Speaking about characters related to beer, who comes to your mind?” We received responses from 196 people during the survey period from July 20 to July 27.
The male-female ratio is about 15% for males and about 85% for females. About 55% of the age group were teens, and about 30% were in their 20s.

■ From heavy drinkers to non-drinkers… Various characters are ranked in

1st place

1st place goes to Sakata Gintoki from “Gintama” with an approval rating of about 16%.

Sakata Gintoki known as Gin-san is a very memorable drinker figure, “He drinks a lot. Gin-san easily getting drunk and suffering from a hangover on the next day is a repeating joke.”, and “I was so surprised when I saw for the first time the hero who gets drunk and vomits from a hangover.”
Some fans were touched by the alcohol related episodes, “The episode when everyone pranked Gin-san to stop drinking was so funny.”

2nd place

2nd place goes to Mouri Kogoro from “Detective Conan” with an approval rating of about 12%.

Readers commented, “He usually have some beer whenever he’s got time, and gets scolded by Ran.”, “He often orders a beer during traveling.”, and “It is cool how he never gets a big belly even after drinking so much!”
Some readers pointed that beer is a drink that suits him the most, “Beer fits well to such a splendid character as Kogoro.”

3rd place

3rd place goes to Nikaido Yamato from “Idolish 7” with an approval rating of about 10%.

Readers commented for Nikaido Yamato, an idol who loves beer, “He always drinks beer on his days off”, “He enjoys beer so much that his friends call him ‘Oldman’.” There were some hoping voices for his relieving break, “I’m relieved to see him drinking with joy. I hope Yamato will continue to enjoy beer.”

For Katsuragi Misato from “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, “All she has in the refrigerator is beer and nibblies. Her drinking up beer at every opportunity is a memorable thing. She drinks with so much joy, so I feel like I’ve drank it too (laughs)”.
For Van from “Seven Deadly Sins”, “He is on a journey for an ale. He looks happiest when he’s drinking.”

About Osomatsu Matsuno from “Mr. Osomatsu”, “The eldest son who likes gambling and drinking the most among the six children! Even in the movie, the scene where Osomatsu buys everyone’s beer and drinks it in the park was depicted in a nostalgic and stupid way.”
For Toucan from “African Office Worker”, the non-human character, “If it is about beer, then I say ‘Toucan’! He’s always drinking beer with yakitori in one hand (Even though he is a bird too).”

In this survey, characters from a wide range of occupations such as office workers, idols, detectives, and police officers are ranked in. The result shows that beer is loved by many people.
