August 4 is “Yukata Day”.
It was established by the Kinosaki Hotspring Tourism Association in Kinosaki-cho, Hyogo Prefecture, in honor of the “Kinosaki Furusato Matsuri”. July 7 is also “Yukata Day”, but this day was established by the Yukata Bunka Association.

Yukata pumps up the summer vibe and is a costume that draws out the charm of the characters. Seeing them in a different look than usual makes us flutter. Who does everyone want to go to a festival with, in a yukata?

We at Anime!Anime! conducted the annual readers’ survey asking “Which Character Do You Want to Go to a Festival With, in a Yukata?” There were 286 votes during the survey period from July 18 to 25.
Most of the voters were female with 80% female to 20% male, and the age range was on the younger side with 45% under 20 and 40% in their 20s.

These are the results for the female characters.

■”Detective Conan”, Shinichi and Ran top both of the lists!

1st Place

Mouri Ran from “Detective Conan” tops the list with roughly 22% of the votes.

Just as Kudou Shinichi did in the male character edition, Ran, the heroine of “Conan”, topped the list for the female characters.
She received several comments saying how they would be fascinated by her different look, “Ran exceeds in karate, so I think she would look great in traditional costumes such as the yukata. It’s so romantic to imagine her going to see fireworks with Shinichi…” and “She often wears a yukata in illustrations, and she looks really cute with her dark hair in a bun, different from her usual long hair worn down.”

2nd Place

Coming in 2nd was Kagura from “Gintama” with roughly 10% of the votes.

“I want to buy lots of food from the food stalls for Kagura, who is a big eater,” and “It would be a fun festival just being with her! But it will also become a costly festival…” are comments from fans who look forward to the food at the festival stalls.
Since Kagura always wears a Chinese dress, there was also a comment saying, “I’m sure she’ll also look good in a yukata.”

3rd Place

Sera Masumi and Haibara Ai from “Detective Conan” shared 3rd place with roughly 4% of the votes each.

Sera Masumi received comments like, “It would be fun to go to a festival with cheerful Sera-chan,” and “I mostly see her in boyish outfits, so I’d love to see her in a yukata!”

Haibara Ai received comments like, “I’m curious to see how Ai-chan, who is cool and mysterious, will enjoy the festival.”
Two characters with opposite personalities got the same number of votes.

For Violet Evergarden from “Violet Evergarden”, “I want to wear a yukata with Violet-chan, who usually wears western-style clothes, and go around the stalls at the festival!”
For Kousaka Reina from “Sound! Euphonium”, “She was so beautiful and cute when she wore the blue yukata at the Ujigawa Fireworks!”

For Kanna from “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid”, “She was super cute in a kimono, so I’m sure she would look amazing in a yukata. She’s so cute I’d buy anything for her!”
There were also votes for the heroine of the anime that currently has its spinoff on-air, Shiba Miyuki from “The Irregular at Magic High School”, “I think her lovely looks would be enhanced by wearing a yukata, and she would help me with her magic if I get into any trouble.”

Various characters made the list for the female character survey.
Characters who regularly wear Japanese-style clothes, such as Izumi Kyouka from “Bungou Stray Dogs” and Kamado Nezuko from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba”, ranked high.
