The box office of “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” (roadshow on March 8, 2021) exceeded 10 billion JPY by July 12, about four months after its release. In response to this, Ogata Megumi, who played Ikari Shinji, and Miyamura Yuko, who played Shikinami Asuka/Asuka Langley Soryu, are showing their gratitude and congratulations on Twitter.
“Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” is the latest and final movie of the “Rebuild of Evangelion” series that has been released since 2007, following “Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone”, “Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.”, and “Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo.”.
In May, the box office exceeded the record of 8.25 billion JPY for “Shin Godzilla” released in 2016 and set a new record for director Anno Hideaki’s work.
And on July 12, it was announced that the box office revenue exceeded 10,015.82 million JPY and the audience exceeded 6.55 million in 127 days.
In response to this announcement, Ogata-san said, “[Thank you] ‘Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time’ exceeded 10 billion JPY! Thank you!! There were no ordinary days during the release period. The final screening was around 05:00 P.M., and the movie theaters in Tokyo and Osaka were closed. Everyone who came to visit us even under such situations. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”, along with thankful words to “Eva” fans, “Thank you …” Shinji’s lines from the final episode of the TV series were quoted.
In addition, a congratulatory message was sent to Director Anno, who became a “10 billion man” with a box office of 10 billion JPY, saying “Congratulations to General Director Anno!”.
Miyamura-san also celebrated the achievement with the familiar lines from the TV series, and many fans responded, “Congrats!”, “Congratulations!” “Congratulations!”, “Congratulations, all Evas”, “Shinji-kun, congratulations for being a 10 billion man”, Congratulations even in the face of the great adversity of ‘State of an emergency’ and Corona’s disaster!!”
The screening of “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” will end on July 21, except for some theaters.
