Want to be one of the first followers? You can still make it. Manga artists and voice actors recently opened a Twitter account: Rumiko Takahashi, Kentaro Yabuki, Tomoko Kaneda and more

Social media, including Twitter, allows anyone to easily share thoughts, illustrations, and other creative works. Recently, it is becoming common among voice actors, manga artists, production staff, and other staff involved in the “behind-the-scenes” world of anime to share information on social media.

This article introduces four prominent figures in the anime and manga industry who opened a Twitter account in May and June 2021.

Rumiko Takahashi
Rumiko Takahashi, the manga artist known for “Ranma 1/2”, “Urusei Yatsura” and “Inuyasha” started her official Twitter account on June 1st, 2021. She currently has over 350,000 followers.

The account is full of information about MAO, which is currently serialized on “Weekly Shonen Sunday”, as well as Q&A tweets. A wide range of content can be found on the account, from Takahashi’s favorite shows and books, to the creation of her works and her daily schedule, making it not only enjoyable for fans but also educational for aspiring manga artists.

Kentaro Yabuki
Kentaro Yabuki, the manga artist known for the “To Love Ru” series and “BLACK CAT”, started his Twitter account on May 26th, 2021. He currently has over 440,000 followers.

Along with the message “Nice to meet you!”, he made his first tweet with illustrations of characters from his previous works, such as Shion from Yamato Gensoki, Train Heartnet from BLACK CAT, Lala Satalin Deviluke from To Love Ru and Matsuri Kazamaki from Ayakashi Triangle.

Yabuki’s posts include information about Ayakashi Triangle, which is currently serialized on “Weekly Shonen Jump”, as well as many character illustrations and rough sketches of manga that Mr. Yabuki has been involved in.

Kosuke Masuda
Kosuke Masuda, the manga artist known for “Gag Manga Biyori” and other works, started his Twitter account on May 26th, 2021. He currently has over 190,000 followers.

On June 9th, about two weeks after the launch of his Twitter account, the official Twitter page for his serial work “Gag Manga Biyori” posted an unusual warning: “[Warning] An account claiming to be the author of “Gag Manga Biyori”, Kosuke Masuda (@kosukemasuda62), has appeared on Twitter. Please note that it is really him. – Jump Square Editorial Department”, which sounds very much like Gag Manga Biyori.

Masuda posts announcements of his serialized works as well as surrealistic illustrations on his Twitter account.

Tomoko Kaneda
Tomoko Kaneda, the voice actor known for her roles as Chiyo Mihama in Azumanga Daioh and as Oshiri-Kajiri Mushi in Oshiri-Kajiri Mushi, started her Twitter account on May 29th, 2021. She currently has over 4,900 followers.

Kaneda’s first tweet was: “Live in the moment!”. Subaru Kimura, who co-hosts the talk show “Seiyu to Yoasobi 2021 Tsunagari” with her, replied to her tweet: “20,000 likes.”

After that, she seemed to be struggling with how to use Twitter and its specific terminology. Let’s look forward to what she posts in the future.
