April 1 is April Fool’s Day.
It is a day when you can lie, and in recent years to commemorate it on the official anime websites, various unique projects are held. What kind of project is waiting for us this year?
In anime and games, there are characters who lie, even though they are not April Fool’s Day.
There are various reasons for lying, such as helping friends, showing yourself well, and having no deep meaning. Who is the most impressive among such liar anime characters?
Here at Anime!Anime!, we conducted an annual reader survey entitled “Speaking about lying characters?”. Responses were received from 186 people during the survey period from March 19 to March 26.
The male-female ratio is about 25% for males and about 75% for females. About 65% of the age group were teens, and about 20% were in their 20s.
■ One-two character born on April 1st!
1st place
1st place goes to Yumeno Gentaro from “Hypnosismic: Division Rap Battle” with an approval rating of about 30%, up from second place last year.
Many fans adored the mysterious charm of novelist Yumeno Gentarou, “You never know whenever he lies or says truth because of the frequently changing voice”, “He usually says ‘I’m lying’ after talking”, and “Because he hides his true feelings, lying for him just like breathing.” He lies all the time, but fans like that “he never says lie that will hurt someone.”
2nd place
2nd place goes to Usopp from “One Piece” with an approval rating of about 10%.
Readers pointed on how the name fits the character’s body, “Speaking of lying characters, it is definitely him! He even was born on April Fool’s Day !”, and “National liar star!”. Some fans also were surprised how often his lie actually gives something, “It is amazing how often his lie becomes true!”
3rd place
3rd place goes to Inuyama Aoi from “Laid-Back Camp” with an approval rating of about 7%.
Inuyama Aoi is a member of the Outdoor Activities Circle. Her lie to brighten up others made her popular, “Since it is difficult to say whenever she jokes or not, she always adds, ‘Joking’ in the end.”, “There is more of brags than a lie, but she is a first-class lier that softens the place every time.”, and “It’s easy to understand because her eyes change when she lies and it’s cute. It’s funny that her sister has the same lying face.”
■ Let’s introduce other comments!
For Karasuma Kyosuke from “World Trigger”, “Whenever Konami appears, he always joking and lying. However, he is cool because he is fighting properly in battle!”
For Gotou Kakushi from “Kakushigoto”, “Although he is a manga artist, he pretends to be an office worker for his daughter, Hime. It was funny to see him hiding his profession so hard.”
For Watanuki Sakuraya from “Servamp”, “The lier who hates being lied. It is great.”
About Maho Tsukijoin from “Re: CREATORS”, who is capable of lying, “It was impressing how she said that ‘truth always comes up'”.
In this survey, Gentarou Yumeno from “Hypmic”, Usopp from “One Piece”, the characters born on April 1, achieved one-two finish.
