March has finally arrived. While the anime currently airing are in the midst of reaching their climax, it is essential to check out the new spring anime that are coming up.
Spring is the season when many new works start every year. This season, as well, there is a wide variety of anime, from original works to adaptions. What are the most highly anticipated titles among them?
So, Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled ” What are the most anticipated anime for the spring 2021 anime season?” During the survey period from March 1 to March 8, we received 364 responses.
The ratio of male to female respondents was about 40% male, and about 60% female. As about 50% of the respondents were under the age of 19, and about 25% were in their 20s, most participants were in younger age groups.
■New “HiroAca” series tops the list with double score!
1st Place
“My Hero Academia” (5th season) took 1st place. It received about 15% support.
“My Hero Academia” (abbreviated as HiroAca), which began broadcasting its 1st season in 2016, is now in its 5th season. The 5th season of “My Hero Academia” begins with the “Yuuei High School Hero Department 1st Year A Class vs B Class Rivalry Arc”.
I’m really looking forward to it because B Class, which hasn’t been focused on much until now, will play an active role! and “I’m wondering what’s going on with Deku’s body since the 4th season ended in a meaningful way.
There is a movie coming out in the summer, and this is the year of “Hiroaca! ” said one comment, showing excitement for the 3rd movie being released in the summer.
2nd place
The 2nd place went to “Fruits Basket The Final”. Its approval rating was about 7%.
This is the 3rd season of the new series, which will start its anime adaptation in 2019. “I’ve been watching it for a long time now, and I’m sad that it’s coming to an end… but on the other hand, I’m really looking forward to the continuation!” and “It’s been about 15 years since the original story was completed, and I couldn’t wait!” and “I want to see how the episodes that were not animated in the 2001 version will be portrayed” were some of the comments received.
3rd place
3rd place went to “Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took In a High School Runaway”. The approval rating was about 6%.
This work is based on a novel by Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko. As the title suggests, it depicts the mysterious life of living together with a high school girl. “I was drawn into the world of the story after reading the original novel”, and “It’s a work that lets you know the meaning of kindness,” “Reading the manga version warmed my heart,” and “The pictures in the preview were beautiful, so I’m paying attention” were some of the comments and it is the top among non-series titles..
The 1st place among just male voters was ” Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took In a High School Runaway”. When looking at women only, “My Hero Academia” came in 1st, “Fruits Basket The Final” came in 2nd, and ” Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun” (2nd series) came in third.

For “Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy” comments such as “I’m looking forward to it because the voice actors include Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, Minase Inori, and Sakura Ayane” and “I’m a reader of the original novel, so I’m looking forward to seeing how the romantic comedy develops in the anime.”
For “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun” comments like “I’m curious about the identity of the other Iruma-kun in the teaser visual!” and “I can see Murase Ayumi’s greatness again in the 2nd season!” Many readers paid attention to the voice actors.
For “86–EIGHTY-SIX”, “The music is by Sawano Hiroyuki and KOHTA YAMAMOTO, the same duo who created the music for ‘Attack on Titan’. As soon as I saw their names in the music video, I was like, ‘I want to see it!”.
For “The Way of the Househusband” comments like “The drama was interesting, and Tsuda Kenjiro in the live-action PV was just like Ryu. I’m happy because he also plays the role in the anime.”
For “Godzilla S.P. (Singularity Point)” has ” A monster goes on a destructive spree at ……. I want to empty my head and surrender to the catharsis!”
For “SSS DYNAZENON”, “The second anime version of Gridman. DYNAZENON. I’m wondering what kind of shocking development there will be, and I can’t wait to see the brave face of Dynazenon,” and there was also a vote for the title based on the special effects.
While series are showing strength in the expectation survey, several popular original works are also ranked high. Anime! Anime! is also planning to conduct a questionnaire about “the most recommended work” after the first spring anime airs.
