As a way of showing love for anime characters, it is one of the common ways to celebrate his/her birthday. Many of you may have seen someone holding a party with a cake surrounded by goods, or posting celebration illustrations on SNS.
Here, at Anime!Anime!, we conducted a readers’ survey titled ‘Did you celebrate any character’s birthday in September?’. The survey had been conducted from Oct. 1, 2020, to Oct. 4, 2020, and we received 97 answers. The male-to-female ratio was about 25% to 75%, which means that the female readers accounted for a large percentage. About 65% of the readers were minors, 20% were in their twenties, which means that the young readers accounted for a large percentage.
■The characters in the titles, the latest work of which was broadcast or released in 2020, have been ranked higher!
1st Place
The 1st place went to Sakuma Ritsu in ‘Ensemble Stars!’. His birthday is Sep. 22. Sakuma Ritsu is in the second grade of Yumenosaki Private Academy, and a member of Knights. He calls himself a vampire, and it’s hard to get his engine going in the daytime, so he is going at his own pace, and often found napping in all sorts of places.
2nd place
The 2nd place went to Tsukishima Kei in ‘Haikyu!!’ His birthday is Sep. 27. Tsukishima Kei is a first-year student at Karasuno High School, and a member of the volleyball club, known for his glasses. His condescending attitude often angers his own teammates, but as the story continues, he starts to take the volleyball more seriously.
3rd place
The 3rd place went to Agatsuma Zenitsu in ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’. His birthday is Sep. 3. He is extremely coward even though he is a Demon Slayer of the Demon Slayer Corps. Zenitsu is also known to be a womanizer and tends to hit on girls in anime. The film titled ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train’ will be released on Oct. 16.
Some of the characters ranked in the survey in Sep. have the same birthday. Ujimatsu Chiya in “Is the Order a Rabbit?” and Sakurauchi Riko in “Love Live! Sunshine!!” share the birthday Sep. 19. Emilia in “Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World” and Katou Megumi in “Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend” were born in Sep. 23.
Furthermore, the characters in the titles, the latest work of which was broadcast or released in 2020, have been ranked higher such as “Haikyu!!”, “Love Live!”, “Is the Order a Rabbit?”, and “Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World”.
As Elizabeth in “Gin Tama”, some non-human mysterious creature has also been ranked. The readers voted for various characters in the birthday survey as well.
