September 24th is “World Gorilla Day”.

It is an anniversary established by the Diane Fossey Gorilla Foundation to protect endangered gorillas and their natural habitats. By the way, gorillas are classified to be the geniuses of the primate hominid family. Primates also include humans.

Many characters related to gorillas or monkeys have appeared in anime. They have been shown in various ways, including being strong like a gorilla, being quick like a monkey, and being a real gorilla or monkey. Here, at Anime! Anime! we conducted a survey about what gorilla/monkey character impressed readers the most?

Here, at Anime! Anime! we conducted a reader survey, “Who is the gorilla/monkey anime character you like the most?” During the survey period from Sep. 9th to Sep. 16th responses from 105 people had been received. The male-female ratio is about 35% for males and about 65% for females. About 45% of the age group were minors, and about 40% were in their 20s.

1st place goes to Kondou Isao from “Gintama” with an approval rating about 30%

Kondou Isao, the director of the Shinsengumi, is a character who is often called a gorilla by the others because of his muscular body. Readers highly praised the episode when he met with with Princess Bubbles, commenting, “He was about to get married with an alien who looks like a real gorilla.”

2nd place goes to Maki Oze “Fire Force”

Maki Oze, the first-class firefighter of the 8th Special Fire Force, also has a muscular and strong body. The gap between her cute appearance and her personality attracted many readers, who said, “I like her being a maiden because she is so cute but muscular and too concerned about being called gorilla!”

3rd place shared between “Gintama’s” original author in gorilla form and Toyotomi Hideyoshi from “Sengoku BASARA”.
Sorachi Hideaki, the original author of “Gintama”, appears in the anime as the original gorilla author. He is also a voice actor himself and was ranked in because of the impact of playing a gorilla-style self-portrait character in a yellow T-shirt.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi has been called “Monkey” by his lord Oda Nobunaga. A comment about him, saying, “He has a gorilla-like character design, but has a well-organized face. Okiayu Ryoutarou’s sexy voice is also refreshing and cool.”
