Aug. 11 is Aoi Shouta-san's birthday.
He started his career in music and debuted as a voice actor in 2011. Today, he is active in various fields, including voice acting, singer, and stage actor.
In 2020, he takes on the roles of main characters in titles such as “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!” of which he will be the ending theme song “BAD END”. Also, fans were excited about his appearance in the live-action part of “My Roomie Is a Dino”, just like in “Poptepipic”.
To celebrate his birthday, we at Anime!Anime! conducted the same reader's survey as last year asking, “Who's Your Favorite Character Voiced by Aoi Shouta-san?”. There were 133 votes during the voting period from Jul. 27 to Aug. 3.
The majority of the respondents were female with the gender ratio at 20% male to 80% female, and the age range was on the younger side with 45% under 19 and 30% in their 20s.
■A 2020 title ranked high on the list!
1st Place
1st place was taken by Mikaze Ai from “Uta no Prince-sama” with roughly 30% of the vote. He is at the top for 3 consecutive years, showing how popular he is among fans.
“He is the character that made me become a fan of Aoi Shouta-san. His voice is perfect for Mikaze Ai-kun!”, “I love his mysterious presence and how he seems indifferent to his teammates. Aoi-kun nailed the clear voice of the character with his high notes,” and “I remember tears flowing naturally when I heard 'Winter Blossom' for the first time. His beautiful singing voice lingers in my head,” shows how fans were fascinated by both the act and his singing.
2nd Place
Coming 2nd was Aoi Shouta from “Poptepipic” with 15% of the votes, also keeping its 2nd position for 3 consecutive years.
Fans were surprised about his appearance and said, “I didn't expect to see him appear as himself. It was great fun to watch him saving a bad ending in live-action,” and “I was so shocked watching the initial broadcast… Great work, “Poptepipic”. I loved how Sho-tan's charm was drawn out to the max.”
Since he also appeared as himself in “My Roomie Is a Dino”, there were some fans full of expectations, “I look forward to seeing the next show he appears in.”
3rd Place
3rd place went to Geordo Stuart from “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!”. He was just 1 vote shy of 2nd place.
“I love how he is committed to Catarina though always being at the mercy of her. I think Aoi-san's voice goes well with a prince character,” and “He's a pretty face with a black heart, but it's nice to see his strong feeling towards Catarina. I'm looking forward to the 2nd season!” are comments from fans who were fascinated by the fiancé of the protagonist.
“I also liked the ending song “BAD END”, a song about the feelings of fruitless love,” is a comment that shows the ending song also was highly praised. A 2020 title made it in the top 3.
■Here some comments for other characters!
For Minaduki Rui from “Tsukiuta. The ANIMATION”, “He portrays his soft, fragile presence through his voice. And best of all, he's a great singer! Definitely the best!”
For Tomii Daiki from “Shounen Hollywood”, “Tommy singing 'Unki Joushou Yellow Punch' is so cute, I want everyone to watch it!”
For Licht von Glanzreich from “The Royal Tutor”, “A kind, sweet voice! He also plays the role in a stage play, and the prince-like Aoi Shouta-san perfectly matches him!”
For Kurumiya Ranran from “√HAPPY+SUGAR”, a character played on drama CDs and stageplays, “The pure, innocent lines and actions, and most importantly, the sparkling tone of his voice. All the best parts of Aoi-san are drawn out through this character.”
In this survey, there were many comments about not only stage plays but also about the theme songs and insert songs. The characters that made the list are those that only Aoi-san, who is active in various fields, can take on the role of.
