“Promised Neverland”, which is the manga currently serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” from Shueisha, will be adopted into the drama outside Japan. Rodney Rothman, who is the director of Best Animated Feature movie in Academy Awards titled “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”, will be in charge of this movie. Masi Oka, who had directed Netflix “Death Note”, will be a producer.
“Promised Neverland” is the manga of dark fantasy written by Shirai Kaiu and drawn by Demizu Posuka, which is currently serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” and has recorded the sale of more than 21 million copies (includes e-books) around the world after the 2nd edition of the volume went on sale early in this June has been held.
The story depicts the orphans, including the protagonist Emma, going against their fate and taking a step toward hope.
While awaiting the live-action movie in Dec. 2020 and the 2nd season for the TV anime in Jan. 2021, the overseas drama project has begun.
Rodney Rothman, who won the Best Animated Feature in Academy Award with “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” will be the director of this drama, Masi Oka, who produced “Death Note” of Netflix, and Fox21 with several hits will be in charge, and the streaming will be held in Amazon Prime Video.
The release date for the oversea drama has not yet announced.
The latest 19th volume of the original manga will be on sale from Jul. 3.
