Jun. 11 is Tsuda Kenjirou-san's birthday.
He debuted in the 1990s, and in 2020, takes part in many titles such as “ID: INVADED” and “Seton Academy: Join the Pack!”. He is also active in various fields, including narrating in the NHK serial TV drama “Yell”.
To celebrate his birthday, we have conducted the same survey as last year, asking our readers, “Who is your favorite character voiced by Tsuda Kenjirou?”, and received 336 votes during the voting period from May 30 to Jun. 6.
Most of the voters were female with a gender ratio of 80% female and 20% male, and the age group leaned on the younger side with 30% being under 19, and 35% being in their 20s.
■A variety of characters including, protagonists, their rivals, and even live-action characters made the list!
1st Place
1st place went to Suou Mikoto from “K”. He kept his position from last year with roughly 12% of the votes.
“Tsuda-san carefully portrayed the gap between the man with a scent of danger, who the delinquents look up to, and the kind side of him he shows to his friends,” and “He doesn't say much, but Tsuda-san's profound words make the character attractive,” are comments that show how the reticent character left a strong impression on the fans.
He also reserved a comment pointing out how he portrayed the character not only by words but by breathing, “It's amazing how he shows the character's emotion through his breathing.”
2nd Place
Coming in 2nd place was Kazama Chikage from “Hakuouki”. He also kept his position from last year with roughly 9% of the votes.
The character's cool charm impressed fans and received comments such as, “He's pushy and has an attitude but I love how he is kind to the protagonist. Tsuda-san's deep voice adds to Chikage-sama's sexy charm,” and “Tsuda-san's vintage, calm voice really draws out the charm of the character.”
He is also popular in the short anime where he becomes a chibi-character, “It amazes me how he keeps the image of the character even though he portrays him more comically in the drama CD.”
3rd Place
3rd place went to Overhaul from “My Hero Academia” with roughly 8% of the votes.
Overhaul, who is the leader of Shie Hassaikai, left a strong impact on the fans as the villain who stood against the heroes, “I love the human side of him and his beliefs that makes him not just a mere villain,” and “He was a heel throughout the whole story, and it was amazing how he kept the characters on guard.” Other comments like, “The powerful battle scenes well portrayed the brutality of the character,” show how his acting in the battle scenes fascinated fans.
■Here are some comments for other characters!
For Nino from “ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.”, “Tsuda-san's voice perfectly matched his kindness watching over Jean and Lotta, hidden sorrow, and elusive personality,” and “I loved him in the preview of the next episode.”
For Fire Emblem from “Tiger & Bunny”, “He well portrayed the character's strong, beautiful, and girly sides. He's my favorite gay character voiced by Tsuda-san.”
For Brilliant Detective Sakaido from “ID: INVADED”, “Tsuda-san is the only one who could portray this character. My heart ached for the first time in many years from watching an anime,” and “I loved how his emotions seeped through his acting. I can't stop my tears every time I watch the scene of him crying.”
There was even a vote for Captain Silver from “Tsuda Kenjirou PROJECT '925'”, a character from the drama CD and video set, “This is the anime that made me fall in love with Tsuda-san. He voices all characters of this title, and Captain Silver is my favorite for his over the top acting.”
Many rival characters who stood against the protagonists made it in the overall ranking. A number of characters from the latest titles broadcast in 2020, such as “ID” and “Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun”, and even a character appearing it the promotional video of “The Way of the Househusband” also made it in the top 20.
