Apr. 7 is “World Health Day”.
It is the anniversary of the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO) on the same day in 1948. Themes related to international healthcare are chosen each year to celebrate World Health Day, along with a variety of events that are held around the world.
When students think of health care, the school infirmary is the first thing that comes up, isn't it? Some of them have surely visited the infirmary to let the doctor check up on their injuries or colds, or to listen about their worries.
Here at Anime!Anime!, we conducted a reader survey asking, “Who is the character you'd like to be your school nurse?”. During the survey period between Mar. 28 to Apr. 4, a total of 333 responses were received.
There were more female respondents with the gender ratio being 25% male and 75% female. The age group was about 70% for those under the age of 19, mainly focusing on teenagers.
■I want to be nursed by the Insect Pillar, Kochou Shinobu from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba”
The 1st place goes to Kochou Shinobu with an approval rating of approximately 12%.
To Kochou Shinobu, also known as Insect Pillar, fans have left some comments such as, “Besides her expertise in pharmacy and medicine, she has a very gentle aura! With her, the infirmary would be a place where I can leave my worries behind”, and “Atmosphere around her, when she's examining Tanjirou and Zenitsu, is gentle and reassuring”.
Tamayo from the same anime ranked in 5th place. Fans have compared Shinobu to Tamayo, who is both a demon and a doctor, saying, “I feel a sense of fear hidden in Shinobu's smile, while I think that Tamayo would really take good care of me even when I'm seriously injured”.
The 2nd place goes to Jinguji Jakurai from “Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle: Rhyme Anima” with an approval rating of approximately 10%.
Jinguji Jakurai, the leader of Matenrou, has received comments for his being a doctor such as, “He's a world-noted doctor who can heal any injury”, and “I'm sure he is also kind and supportive in consultation”. Some fans appreciated the voice of Hayami Shou, who played the character, which becomes one of the reasons for his major votes, “I feel safe when I hear his voice”. As a result, the title, that is about to be adapted into an anime, is on top of the ranking.
The 3rd place goes to Tony Tony Chopper from “One Piece” with an approval rating of approximately 7%.
To Chopper, the doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates, fans praised his great skills as a doctor, as well as his cute appearance, “After receiving medical treatment from him, I feel that he would say gently, 'Don't strain yourself too much!!'”, and “He looks cute and able to heal the mind of his patients as well”.
Here are some other comments!
Yosano Akiko from “Bungo Stray Dogs”: “If you're not dead, she will heal you. But you must be “half-dead” before she can use her abilities (laughs)”.
The “Recovery Girl” from “My Hero Academia”: “Because she has the ability to heal any injury quickly. There are also scenes where she scolds students and teachers, but she is a veteran, so her presence is reassuring in itself”.
Sagami Jin from “Ensemble Stars”, “Despite his being a school doctor, a good-looking man, and a former idol, he is sloppy and listless, a gap which I find very cute”.
Tsukuyo from “Gintama”, “She worked as a school nurse in the spin-off '3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei'. She is a sexy character who looks great in her mini-tight skirt and white gown”.
The survey also features votes for characters who actually play school nurses such as Sakura from “Urusei Yatsura” and Mikado Ryouko from “To LOVE-Ru”.
