Apr. 6 is White Day, a memorial day that was created by combining the numbers “46” (“shiro”, which means white in Japanese).

White is a special color that reflects light. It is often used as an image color for anime characters, and is depicted in a variety of ways, such as white hair, white clothes, and a white body color. Among all the characters whose image color is white, who is the most impressive?

Here at Anime!Anime!, we conducted an annual reader survey asking “Who is your favorite anime character whose image color is white?”. During the survey period between Mar. 27 to Apr. 3, a total of 248 responses were received.
There were more female respondents with the gender ratio being 15% male and 85% female. The age group was about 50% for those under the age of 19, and about 30% for those in their 20s, mainly focusing on youngsters.

■ Kaitou Kid in a full white costume is on top!
The 1st place goes to Kuroba Kaitou from “Magic Kaito” with an approval rating of approximately 12%, ranking up from the 2nd place of the last year.

Many fans appreciated Kaitou Kid's costume which is based on white, “He wears an all white silk hat, jacket, trousers, shoes, and a cape without any discomfort! The white shining in the moonlit night looks mysterious and cool!” and “The white color that appears suddenly from a pitch-dark place is beautiful and filled with a mysterious aura. He is the character that came out as soon as I read this survey”.
Kid has also appeared in “Detective Conan”, and there are comments such as, “I think he is a humorous and very smart character that is always hostile to Conan, but sometimes cooperate together”.

The 2nd place goes to Sakata Gintoki from “Gintama” with an approval rating of approximately 10%.
He is a unique character with silver hair. Besides his distinctive aspect, there were also many comments related to his alias name such as, “During the Joui War, he became known as the Shiroyasha. I love it!”. The 2nd place was taken by a popular character who shows to be great in both comical and serious situations.

The 3rd place goes to Amuro Tooru from “Detective Conan” and Shimotsuki Shun from “Tsukiuta. The Animation” with the same percentage of votes equal to approximately 7%.

For Amuro Tooru, “He looks great in a white high-necked costume while riding a white RX-7, his favorite car. Also, the image of white looks good on his brown skin”.
For Shimotsuki Shun, “He is known as the White Demon King. He has a fleeting appearance, and I always feel that his free and uncontrolled personality fits well with the image of white”.

Accelerator from “A Certain Magical Index”: “He has white hair and wears a white costume because of his ability of blocking ultraviolet rays. He also gains white wings and is described as a white monster. I think white looks good on him!”.
Ayanami Rei from “Neon Genesis Evangelion”: “The white plugsuit suits her perfectly. I also think that her unhappiness and little sense of presence matches exactly with the image of white”.

Teramoto Yuuka from “If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die”: “She's cute because of her silliness and lack of reading between the lines. As the catchphrase says, she really looks like an angel”.
There were even some votes for a robot, which is Gundam from “Mobile Suit Gundam”, “It is a mobile suit that was feared by the Zeon forces as the White Devil of the Federation”.
As a result, a variety of characters, from the protagonist to the rival character of the series, ranked in.
