One month has already passed since the start of the winter 2020’s anime.
TV anime does not comprise of just the main story, but also the theme song which expresses the world inside in only 1 minute and 30 seconds is a great attraction. A variety of songs have been collected from the anime of winter 2020. Among them, which are the theme songs that resonated the most with the fans?
Here at Anime!Anime! we conducted a reader survey asking “Among the anime theme songs of winter 2020, which one do you like?” During the survey period between Feb. 2 to Feb. 9, a total of 156 responses were received.
The gender ratio was almost the same with 48% for male and 52% for female. The age group was about 50% for those under the age of 19, and about 30% for those in their 20s, mainly focusing on youngsters.
Now we will announce the results related to the ED theme.
■ “Haikyuu!!” is on top again as in the OP theme category. Works that have different theme songs in each episode were also ranked in.
The 1st place goes to “Haikyuu!! TO THE TOP”. The approval rating was about 20%, taking both tops together with the previous survey related to the OP theme.
The ED theme is “Kessen Spirit” by CHiCO with HoneyWorks. There were various comments from the readers, such as “An encouraging song that gives me great support. It’s so positive that makes me feel like, even if you're backed up against the wall and lose the game, you shouldn’t feel ashamed of it, because it will actually make you stronger!”.
Some fans commented about the new feeling and style brought by the song, “HoneyWorks was an unexpected feeling in “Haikyuu!!, but I think it suits perfectly to the anime”, and “I was looking forward to the first song by a female artist in ” Haikyu !!”. It was impressive more than I imagined.”
The 2nd place is a tie between “Isekai Quartet 2” and “Uchi Tama!? ~Uchi no Tama Shirimasen ka?~” with the same percentage equal to 7%.
The ED theme of “Isekai Quartet 2” is titled “Ponkotsu! Isekai Theater” sung by the female cast which includes Shalltear (CV: Uesaka Sumire), Megumin (CV: Takahashi Rie), Rem (CV: Minase Inori), and Visja (CV: Hayami Saori). In the first season, the protagonist and the heroine worked on the theme song, while in season 2 the sub heroines were in charge of it. Popular characters were specially gathered, and it seems that many fans have fallen in love with it.
In the same way, the cast in “Uchi Tama!? ~Uchi no Tama Shirimasen ka?~” was also in charge of the ED theme. Since each episode adopts a different ED theme, many fans expressed their comments about it saying, “I'm always looking forward to seeing who will sing in the next episode. The voice actors are good at singing and expressing their characters’ traits in each song”, and “you can enjoy the lingering feeling of the anime left by the song”.
Regarding only the male voting; 1st place is “Isekai Quartet 2”, 2nd place is “Asteroid in Love”, and 3rd place is “In/Spectre”, while the female voting includes “Haikyuu!! TO THE TOP” on the top, “Uchi Tama!? ~Uchi no Tama Shirimasen ka?~” on 2nd place, while “Toilet-bound Hanako-kun” and “Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga” were tied on the 3rd place.
“Yozora” by Suzuki Minori in “Asteroid in Love”, “Compared to the OP theme, it is slightly calmer and makes me feel healed.”
“LAST DANCE” by Miyano Mamoru in “In/Spectre”, “Starting from the paisley pattern of Kotoko-chan's underwear that came out in the original work, as well as the scene of Kurou-kun placing his hand under Kotoko’s chin in a romantic way, and the back of Kotoko-chan were shown!!”.
“Tiny Light” by Kitou Akari in “Toilet-bound Hanako-kun”, “It is a song that makes you feel compassionate in a sad way towards Nene and Hanako-kun”. The touch of the images is also unique”.
Regarding “Inusei ha Ichido kiri” by Cinnamon, Boo, and Lucky in “Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga”, the song became very popular with the voice actors being in charge of it; “it is comical and makes you feel fun.”
