The newest live action film “Mulan” by Disney (“Beauty and the Beast” “Aladdin”) will be released in Japan on Apr. 17, 2020. In addition to this news, a Japanese original poster showing “Disney’s strongest heroine in history”, Mulan, was unveiled.

Disney Animation has created many heroines, such as Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” and Jasmine from “Aladdin” thus far. However, it can be said that this movie’s main character, Mulan, is a unique and unrivaled presence that changed the image of Disney heroines.

Mulan is a brave woman who, in order to take the place of her beloved father, disguises herself as a man to head into battle for her country. In the newly unveiled Japanese poster, her strong will can be felt from the passionate red color of her clothing. However, her heart struggling and wavering between the lies and the truth is also depicted in her reflection in her tightly-gripped sword.

Asian beauty Liu Yifei was chosen to be the live action Mulan. The way she shows a combination of translucence and strength is impressive, and looks as though she embodied Mulan herself. And joining her are Gong Li, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, and more, a group of talented actors who have worked worldwide and have established reputations in action movies.

And the one holding the megaphone is a female director and New Zealand native Niki Caro. It will be notable how a female director will bring the story with a female lead to completion.

The movie “Mulan” will be released nationwide on Apr. 17, 2020.
