“Sumikko Gurashi The Movie Tobidasu Ehon to Himitsu no Ko” (aired since Nov.8,2019) has ranked 1st place inthe domestic movie ranking and 2nd place in the overall ranking for 2 consecutive weeks. With a total of 334,980 audiences in 114 theaters, box office revenues have reached 405,092,800 JPY in two weeks.
“Sumikko Gurashi the Movie Tobidasu Ehon to Himitsu no Ko” is the movie of “Sumikko Gurashi” a character content by San-X Inc., the company also known for “Tarepanda” and “Rilakkuma” since 2012.
The movie has a completely new story supervised by “Sumikko Gurashi” team, and describesthe adventures of Sumikko who were taken to the world of illustration books.
The movie was unexpectedly successful with comments sent, such as “The cute characters healed my heart” and “I was impressed by the great story plot with some unexpected scenes”.
A male-only event “Bokura mo Sumikko Ouendan! Theater Event” held in Shinjuku Piccadilly, Tokyo, was filled with male fans, holding stuffed toys of their favorite characters. There even are fans who come to watch the movie multiple times.
Being such a great hit, the movie will be shown in additional theaters. The “Sumikko Love” seems to keep on it’s spread.
Additionally, the 4th special gift for watching the movie will be a post card withthe design of the end role. It will be distributed for a limited number from Nov. 29.
“Sumikko Gurashi the Movie Tobidasu Ehon to Himitsu no Ko” is now intheaters nationwide.
